FRANKLIN SHOW

SUCCESSFUL OPENING

VARIETY OF ATTRACTIONS STOCK OF FINE QUALITY CHAMPIONSHIP AWARDS MADE [FROM' OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] PUKEKOHE, Friday The variety of attractions provided by the Franklin Agricultural and Pastoral Society's, 54th annual show, which is beiug held' to-day and to-morrow on the Show Grounds at Pukekohe, is very great. In a scientific exhibition, the Agricultural Department has a miniature show in itself dealing with latest discoveries in agricultural practice and providing education on the handling and utilisation of wool on veterinary subjects of moment. The indoors display of fruit, flowers, and the products of arts and crafts, including school work, is another section that practically constitutes a show in itself.

The horses, cattle, sheep and pigs, with their fine quality, bring the exhibition well to the fore in provincial standard. The new pig pavilion was inadequate for the great response in entries and additional pens have had to be provided outside. Champion pigs have come from all parts of the Auckland and Taranaki districts, and the judges were unable to complete their task to-dav. The trade exhibits and sideshows make another fine section.

Ideal weather" is being experienced, and the prospects are that People's Day to-morrow will be, an outstanding success.

Ten entries were received for the district courts championship. The awards were: —Pukekohe Women's Institute, 195 points, 1; Pukekawa Women's Division, 194, 2; Ararimu and Ramarama Women's Institutes, 195, 3; Karaka Women's Division, 184, 4. The Championships
