STATUS OF RIDING
TAKAPUNA SUGGESTION TOWN BOARD DISTRICT URGED The opinion that it was time tho Takapnna Riding of tho Waitemata County changed its status to that of a town board district was expressed by the riding member on the council, Mr. H. T. Gibson, at a meeting held at Brown's Bay under the auspices of the Brown's Bay Progressive Association. He considered that a residential area could not bo adequately administered with the revenue from county rates. Mr. Gibson referred to tho low costs of administration in the county, which extended over 629 square miles and possessed a valuation of £4,566,000. In spite of roading difficulties, "pioneering" work in some of tho ridings and the largo expenditure involved, tho council's staff had continued to keep down tho total administration costs to the low figure of 3.9 per cent of tho money that was handled. Nevertheless, the revenue was all too low for tho demands upon the exchequer.
