GARDENERS' AWARD
PROPOSED SUPERSESSION APPLYING THE NEWER ACT A proposal that the Auckland market gardening industry should be brought under the Agricultural Workers Act, as in all other parts of the Dominion, was discussed by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P C." Webb, with representatives of the employers' organisation and of the Gardeners and Gardeners' Labourers' Union. The industry is at present governed by an award, but it is proposed that the parties should avail themselves of the provisions of the Act, which originally applied to dairying, but'f now covers practically all classes of farming and fruit-growing. As the result of yesterday's discussion it was decided that the parties should meet again, and in the event of a complete agreement, which was expected, they should make a submission to the Minister, who would have an extension order gazetted under the Act.
