§ WORK ON OHOPE ROAD if [by TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] xi 'WHAKATANE, Friday sir Whakatane borough workmen are making good progress with the widening of the Ohope Road at the Whakastane end tp below HMerest. The road 3s closed in working hours and it is - thoped to finish the job by March 1. For fj.a distance of 17 chains. 6ft. of solid jrcck is being cut hack and the narrow ,;gorge is being widened to 22ft by V;cntxing the rook back 10ft. One. difficulty is that the road must :{be reopened for traffic each night, and .is that the business portion • Whakatane is below the road and impossible t6 tip spoil over the v.owS. -t. ia estimated that 1246 cubio >axaa o£ rock will bo removed.
