WINTER MILK SUPPLY
PREVENTING A SHORTAGE WAIUKU AREA POSSIBILITIES The need for improvements in milking sheds in the Waiuku district to comply with Department of Agriculture standards was mentioned by Mr. W. C. Neil, technical adviser to the Auckland Metropolitan Milk Council, when reporting to a meeting of the council yesterday on tho supply of milk from this source during tho winter as a means of augmenting normal supplies from elsewhere.
Officers of the board had visited the district, Mr. Neil said, and eisht farmers, including several very large suppliers, were prepared to bring their sheds up to the required standard for town supply. Tho estimated amount which these farmers would supply was about 600 gallons daily and that would make an economic load, Mr. Noil said. There were indications that the winter shortage would bo greater than this, and it seemed advisable to endeavour to cncourago a greater supply from the district. It might also bo necessary to take on more permanent licences from other districts. Tho report was received and will be discussed at a later date.
