TAXI FARES NOT PAID
MAN SENT TO PRISON [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday Alleged to have victimised four taxi drivers to the total extent of £1 17s, Edward Dardanelle de Malmanche appeared before Mr. E. C. Levvey, S.M.. in the Magistrate's Court this morning. He pleaded guilty. Detective-Sergeant Sinclair said that de Malmanche had hired taxis, giving false names and addresses. ''Among the taxi drivers," said Mr. Sinclair, "he is, in American parlance, public enemy No. 1." De Malmanche was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour, to be followed by 18 months' •reformative detention.
