PRISONER'S ESCAPE

WAIKTJNE CAMP INMATE BROKE AWAY FROM GANG DISAPPEARANCE, IN BUSH Warriors and police parties are searching for Alfred Hicks Howell, labourer, aged 22, who escaped from the Waikune prison camp, near National Park, at 4.30 o'clock yesterday afternoon. Howell broke away from a gang working about half a mile from the camp, and as he was wearing prison clothing, it is presumed he lay in hiding in the bush until nightfall before attempting to get any farther. The Auckland police have been allvised to keep a look-out for the prisoner, whose description is as follows:—Height, sft. 9in.; fresh complexion, brown hair, blue eyes, medium build.
