FITNESS WEEK

HAMILTON ARRANGEMENTS PHYSICAL WELFARE COMMITTEE [from otjr own correspondent] HAMILTON, "Wednesday Details of the programme for Physical Fitness Week in Hamilton were finalised at a meeting of the Hamilton Fitness Week Committee last evening. A start will bo made on Saturday when there will be a tennis match between Waikato and Taranaki. Throughout the week an inter-house cricket tournament will be held.

There will be a floodlight carnival at Hinemoa Park next Wednesday, preceded by a procession of members of various sports bodies from Knox Street, via Victoria Street, to the park. After an address by the Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, there will be a programme of athletic and cycling events, Highland dancing, folk dancing and ball displays by children, and band items. Films obtained from the Internal Affairs Department will be screened on February 23 and the South Auckland swimming championships will be held on February 25.: In .the-event of wet weather the programme arranged for Wednesday will be held the following evening. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, has appointed the following to act "as members of the committee for the borough of Hamilton under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act: —The Mayor, Mr. H. D. Caro, Messrs. W. Cann, R. McCaw, F, A. Swarbrick, W. Fraser, C. G. Hunt. J. H. Ledgerwood, W\ fi. Paul, Dr.. W. R. Fea; Dr. Sophia de la Mare, Miss A. Satchell and Miss M. Mawson. SOUTHERN SUBURBS VARIED PROGRAMME APPROVED Arrangements for a . comprehensive programme in observance of the Physical Fitness Week were made at meetings, of representatives of the Otahuhu and Manurewa Borough Councils, the Manukau County Council, the Papatoetoe Town Board, and various sports bodies presided over by the Mavor of Otahuhu, Mr. C. R. Petrie. M.P. It was reported that the Otahuhu Swimming Club would conduct a series of school championships and secondary schools races on Saturday at King's College open-air pool. Athletic and cycle programmes would be held during the week. The Papatoetoe and Otahuhu bands had combined for the occasion and would be present at the evening meetings. > At Otahuhu a "People's Day" in the form of a community gathering at Seaside Park would be. held on February 25. Special displays had been arranged and races, including yachting and swimming events., would be held.
