was first played in 1932 dnd has now become recognised as having a definite P|J ce in the bowling year. E. Clifford, of Whangarei, who is 8(> years old, claims the most years and he lias been playing p owl9 for 50 years; D. Ball, of Whangarei, is 81 years; J. Ilorrj, of Onerahi, is 80. years old and was a foundation member of the ngarei Bowling Club; D. X. CHAMPIONS HONOURED FUNCTION AT BALMORAL The Balmoral Bowling C'lub tendered a social evening to their successful representatives in the recent New Zealand championship tournament, C. F. Robertson, B. Bucknell, Purdy and Lowe, won the Buxton Shield competition that was finalised on the Kawakawa Bowling Club's greens. The runner-up was another Kaikohe team including Kosovich. Eisenhnt, McLean and Yukich. The score in the final was 7 to 3. Teams from Kaitaia, Kawakawa. Russell. Kaikohe and Rawene competed. WHANGAREI TOURNEY [from our own correspondent] WHANGAREI, Wednesday The greens were in splendid condition for the Whangarei Bowling Club's tourney last evening. The first round was of 21 heads, utter which eight pairs were eliminated, leaving three games, each of five heads, to find the winning pair. The final was played between A. Beaton and M. Wlntelaw and H Doel and C. Doel. The latter pair, both of whom are young players, won, 3 2.
