TE AKAU-WAINGARO AREA DIFFICULTIES FOR BOARD . .[from; our o\y>" .correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday Importing to the Central Waikato Electric-Powjjr Board to-dav, the engineer-marager, Mr. J. R. Ellis, stated that an investigation had been made of the Te Akau and Waingaro districts to iitscertain the possibility of the electrical'reticulation of the area. The estimated capital expenditure required to do the work was £9173. and the annual revenue required was £1376. Guarantees had been signed for revenue eqmailing £757 from 41 prospective consumers. The shortage was- £619, or 6.75 per cent of the 15 per cent required. Mr. Ellis estimated that it should be possible to gat the guarantee increased to £995, or 10.9 per cent. If the Waingaro line were allowed to wait the possible revenue could be increased to 11.5 per obit. It was decided to convene a meeting of settlers aiad that the members and officers of tliej board attend and do their best to increase the guarantee. On the motion of the chairman, Mr. T, Hinton, t|lie board resolved to authorise the raising of a special loan of £50,000 for the purpose of special reticulation within the board's district in terms of consent issued by the Local Government Loans Board.

The erection of poles to Taumaruniii for linking Arapuni with the borough electric-power system has been completed. At a meeting of the provisional power hoard committee held to obtain power from Arapuni for country areas it was decided to form a Tauinarunui Power Board and approach the Manunui Town , Board and Tauinarunui Borough Council to form part of the proposed power hoard area. The Tauinarunui Borough has had its own hydro-electric plant for lo years and has already an agreement for a supply of power from Arapuni to augment this source. The borough also supplies Manunui and several outer.areas.

The-consulting engineers, Mandeno, Lee and Brown, recommended the committee t;o obtain authority for a loan of £120,000 to finance a scheme to cost o\-'2r £IOO,OOO.

The area of the power hoard district, excluding Tauiiiartmtii Borough, would he 1800 square miles." with rateable capital value ol' £2,722.000 and a population of lil.ooo.

Til eluded in the proposed area for reticulation are three counties, Tauiiiarunui. Kaiticke and Ohura, the townships oil Oh urn and Manunui. and also Mntiei'e. Piriaka, Knkahi. Oio, Owhango and Raurimu. Possibly National Park and the Chateau would be included' in the scheme.
