WAITAKERE PARK
Sir, —While supporting the proposal of a park as a centennial memorial the question of accessibility will require full consideration. At present unless one owns a car or is prepared to walk the distance the beauty of the drive to the majority of citizens is a closed book. Transport will come later, but the cost will need to be such that a worker will be able to take wife and family to enjoy the beauty and invigorating air of the heights at a moderate outlay, otherwise the park might just as well be at the North Cape, as far as the rank and file of the people are concerned.
Before there can be any enthusiasm t: i) ye nil wed among the people for the park the first thing required is to clearly define the area and position of the proposed reserve, and second to make it clear that cost of transport will make it available to all sections of the community. One can visualise in the days to come a continuation of this road above the West Coast beaches to Whatipu and back to Titirangi, thus opening up a scenic highway for future generations that would surely be a thing of beauty and a joy .forever.
