SPREAD OF RAGWORT
TAURANGA DISTRICT COUNTY COUNCIL CONCERNED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TAURANGA, Monday Concern was expressed by several councillors at a meeting of the Tauranga County Council at tlio spread of ragwort in various areas. The subject was discussed following a report on clearance work by tho county inspector. Mr. W. F. Mundt referred to the spread of ragwort in the Maketu riding and advocated adopting strong measures. Tho county engineer, Mr. A. H. Senham, explained that several gangs wero employed in dealing with weeds on Crown and Maori lands. Some of tho Maori lands wero being treated a second time. fteferenco was made by councillors to the spread of ragwort on a Maori block of 4v9 acres at Maungarangi and also to another block of land at the upper end of No. .3 l?oad, Te Puke. It was stated that the ragwort was out in flower and action should bo taken befor, the seeds rose and wero distributed by the wind. Mr. Benham stated that about 40 tons of sodium chlorate had been used during tho current season and ho would endeavour to arrange for additional men as soon as possible.
