TEAM FOE WAIEAEAPA CHANCES OF HAPPY LANDING TIGER GAIN'S CUP CONTESTS SLEEVELESS UNDER A CLOUD [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] Thursday Only seven horses from Hawke's Bay will bo racing at Tauherenikau on Saturday, while it is possible none will bo at Marton. Hunter's Eve, Master Cyklon, Tiger Gain, Happy Landing, Endorsement and Le Toquet are definitely booked for the Wairarapa meeting. Hunter's Eve over short distances is one of the most brilliant performers and, although she is not yet out of hack class, she will bo seriously considered for the Featherston Handicap with an apprentice allowance. Master Cyklon did not impress at Awapuni as being near his best form, which belied his fast gallop before his departure. In all probability Tiger Gain will contest the Wairarapa Cup on Saturday and the Marton Cup on Monday, this being tho first occasion on which it has been possible to race in both Cups. Tiger Gain, now in his 11th year, wears so well that he cannot be disregarded. • On recent form Happy Landing is the best of the Hawke's Bay trio in the Wairarapa Cup. In the Manawatu Cup he did not receive a good run, while on the third day his third placing was impressive. Le Toquet Doing Well Endorsement's failure in her one attempt at Awapuni is difficult to explain, as she has never looked nor galloped better. Le Toquet lias been acquitting himself well this week and he may. be all the better for not having raced over the Christmas meetings. He should find solid support if reserved for the Russell Handicap. The Havelock Flying Handicap field to race at Hastings next Monday is the best of this class for many seasons. Hagen was sore in his one start at Awapuni, but he should be himself by Monday. Sternchase also was started once only. He conceded the field eight or nine lengths, and for him to run in just behind the placed horses was a meritorious performance. In four of his five starts to date he has drawn No. 1 barrier position, a place he does not like. Three Smart Juveniles The meeting of Hagen and Sternchase with another three-year-old, Kathbella, should be worth seeing, as she, too, is brilliant. . When winning at Awapuni from a smart hack field she was eight lengths in front when making the home turn. On account of soreness, Big Dook was not started at Manawatu nor accepted for in the Marton Cup; which he won last year, but in all probability he will race at Hastings. Sleeveless had to forego her Manawatu engagements because of shoulder trouble, and it is doubtful if she will be produced at the Hawke's Bay meeting. Mimicry, a Gisborne-owned and trained filly, who has been quartered here for some weeks, ran two excellent races at Awapuni for a fourth and a second. In the Hastings maiden race she should be one of "the first selections, as the distance, five furlongs, will suit her better. Since racing at Feilding last month, Lord Midas has done everything right at Ngatarawa. Ivar should be improved by his two races at Manawatu. It is intended to start him on tile second day at Hastings.
