WOMEN'S STATUS
Sir, —We all love "our Mr. Algie"; and it is therefore in a very friendly spirit that one reminds him that the change-over from "public chivalry and private brutality" to pre-sent-day progress towards true equality was largely brought about by woman's own efforts, and not alone by "the goodness and generosity of the heart of man" (sic 1 ). What we really want, Mr. Algie (and others), is to see some justification for our hope that one day a manhood will be evolved that will be capable of relinquishing the remarkable and man-ev.olved belief that there is any "weaker sex" in the realm of mind. Mother Machree,
