COMEDY FOR THE REGENT

"DAD AND DAVE" SEASON The outstanding success enjoyed by the first Australian talking picture "On Our Selection," which was shown in Auckland some years ago, has prompted the producers to make another film, dealing with further adventures of "Dad and Dave," the main characters in the story. In the new picture, "Dad and Dave Come to Town," which will open a season at the Regent Theatre on Friday, the two leading roles are once again played by the comedians of "On Our Selection" —Bert Bailey and Fred Mac Dona Id. Another link with the former picture is provided by Ken G. Hall, who was the director of both films. The stofy commences on the Hudd farm, where droughts > and difficulties are now but dim memories, the family having become prosperous after many years of hard work. The Rudds are astounded to hear of the sudden death of "Dad's" brother and of their inheritance of a ladies' lingerie salon in Sydney. They have almost decided to sell the when Jill, who welcomes the opportunity to visit the city, persuades "Dad" to take over the management of the salon. While "Dad" applies his farm methods to his city business and Jill sets out to place things on a proper business basis, Dave tries his hand at making love to the mannequins. They encounter trouble in the person of. a rival, but ''Dad" decides on a tremendous publicity campaign, which, after many amtming situations, at last brings them success. The picture is brought to an hilarious climax at a fashion display, when Dave outwits their rival,, who holds a promissory note for £IOOO and demands instant payment. Other roles are taken by the charming young 'Australian actress, Shirley Ann Richards. Alec Kellaway, who appeared in "Lot George Do It," Sidney Wheeler and Billy Raves. An added attraction on thn programme will be the personal appearance on the stage of Bert Bailey, who has the part of "Dad" in the picture.
