TRIP FOR SCOUTS
AUCKLAND FAREWELL JAMBOREE CONTINGENT DEPARTURE NEXT WEEK An evening to farewell the members of the Auckland contingent of the Boy Scouts who are to attend the jamboree in Sydney at the end of this month was held in the Holy Sepulchre Church Hall last night. There was a large assembly of scouters and members of the Boy Scouts' Association, a welcome being extended by Major R. F. Ward, the metropolitan commissioner. The selection of the metropolitan contingent was completed recently and 50 lads are to leave with 250 others by the Awatea on Tuesday. For several weeks the boys have been attending camp practising various games and forms of scout craft in preparation for the jamboree. They performed a haka at last night's gathering. New Zealand will be represented by 600 scouts at the jamboree, the 300 from the South Island who will leave on the Wanganella being joined by the Auckland contingent on arrival at Sydney. All the lads selected have attained the standard of at least secondclass scouts. The Auckland party will be headed by Mr. Dennis Johns, a member of the Kowhai High School staff. .
A series of games and other forms of entertainment last night was concluded with the holding of a campfire.
