CHILDREN ENTERTAINED SOCIAL AND DANCE FOLLOW A festive scene was presented at the Penwomen's Club rooms last night, when members of the British Legion held their annual Christmas party and dance. -The early part of the evening was spent in entertaining the members' children, of whom there were about 80 present. Coloured paper streamers and branches of palms decorated the room, a rolled Union Jack being placed above the entrance. The words "Merry Christmas," in scarlet letters, were suspended in front of the stage, which was decorated with festoons of green and red, from which hung silver Christmas bells. Green cardboard Christmas trees, frosted with silver, ferns and palms added to its attractive appearance. Games were played by the children, fancy dances were presented by Dorothy Gilbertson and Valerie Holman. and violin solos contributed by Peter Carruthers. Mrs. E. McWhirter and Mr. Paris Cowper played the piano accompaniments. Each child received a gift from Mr. T. Anderson, who was dressed as Santa Claus. and sweets, balloons and paper caps were also distributed. At the conclusion of the children's entertainment, a concert programme and dance were enjoyed by the adults. Songs were sung bv Miss 1. Hallidav and Mr. 0. R ees, Miss Athalie McCarr danced and Miss Alice McKellar recited. A short sketch was presented by Mr. and Mrs. K. Wool ley and Mr. K. Eraser. Mrs. McWhirter and Mr. Cowper played the dance music. The entire programme had been arranged bv Mrs. A. H. Turner and Mrs. K t Webster. The committee comprised Mrs. E. C. Webster. Mrs. W. C. McComb. Mr. G. C. Carr (secretary), Sir. J. Hughes. .Mr. A. Reid, Mr. B. Bond. Mr. T. Rogers. Mr. S. Ait ken and Mr. T. Shaw.
