REMOVAL OF HILL

GARDEN PI. ACE SCHEME VESTING LAND IN COUNCIL PUBLIC WORKS ACT INVOKED [from our own correspondent! HAMILTON, Wednesday The proclamation giving the Hamilton Borough Council authority to take land under the Public Works Act in connection with the Garden Place lull removal scheme is expected to he issued within a few days. A loan of £77..'>00 was authorised for the work at a poll of ratepayers in a special rating area some months ago. The council has decided that as soon as the proclamation is issued the borough solicitors should advise all the occupies of the seven buildings on the hill that all their lands and premises will then be vested in the council, that rents will then be payable to the council's agents, and that the occupiers on the north side of the hill are required to vacate their houses within one week and those in other houses within one month. Failing the houses becoming vacant, the solicitors will be instructed to take proceedings to obtain possession. The council has also decided that as soon as the solicitors advise the date vacant possession can be obtained the borough engineer should complete arrangements with G. Rhodes and Sons, Limited, of Auckland, for the removal of 0110 of the houses, and, before the work is completed, report us to the advisability of the firm removing the remainder of the dwellings. It has been agreed also that Grinter 111-others, of Atrcklaud, be informed after the proclamation is advertised that their first tender for the removal of the hill is accepted on the understanding that a start be made before January 30.
