ELLERSLIE WORK

JONATHAN GOES WELL SOUND FIVE FURLONGS STRETTQ AND MARIE'S ACRE The weather was fine and the going in excellent condition for track work at Ellerßlie on Saturday, when all the fast work was done on the No. ] grass. The best gallops were those of Jonathan over a round, and of Stretto and Mario's Acre over five furlongs. Jack Tar, the two-year-old High Caste and Surella also made good time over half a mile. Knight of Australia (Messervey) ran a round in 1.58 4-5, the last half-milo in 51 4-ss. The time was not good, but he worked freely. Bonnybello (Tremain) got the better of the pick-up when joining in at the half-mile and came homo comfortably alongside Knight of Australia. Professional (Gilchrist) sprinted half a mile in 50 2-ss. Bronze Emerald (Cameron) was in front of Chelandry (Tremain) over the same distauce in 50 4-ss. The litter pair are both making progress. Konneta (Gilchrist) hit out nicely while sprinting three furlongs in 38s. She is going on satisfactorily and will bo in good order at Christmas. High Caste (Markwick) got slightly the better of the start and finished on terms with Surella (Wiggins) at the end of half a mile in 495. Both horses shaped nicely. Wapaugh and Fidelia

Bright Idea (Buchanan) easily ran six furlongs in 1.26 3-5. Psychologist (Gilchrist) took 1.27 4-5 in covering tho same journey. Erinatiou (Tremain) ran six furlongs ia 1.24, and Mai de Mer improved on this by recording 1.22 2-5. Mai de Mer put plenty of dash into his work and seems to be coming on again. Wapaugh pleased more than Fidelis (Green) over half a milein 50 4-ss. Wapaugh is a two-year-old colt by Siegfried and he is likely < to have his first outing in tho Waipa Plato on Saturday. Birthday Boy (Wiggins) and Jonathan (Messervey) were sent a long gallop. Tho former began to movjS) at a fair pace after leaving the mile and ahalf peg and Jonathan joined in at the milo and a-quarter, when the pace improved and they were going fast when they began the last circuit, over which Jonathan recorded 1.54. Birthday Boy was seen to weaken three furlong from homo and he finished weakly a long way behind Jonathan. He pulled up rather distressed and his poor display suggests that ho was off colour, although apart from his signs of weariness there was apparently nothing serious amiss with him. His progress during tho next few days will be awaited with anxiety by his trainer. Jonathan went well and ran the last six furlongs in 1.21 and the last halfmile in 53 4-ss. In spite of this the pace was not sufficiently good to account for Birthday Boy's failure to show up at the finish.

Railway Handicap Horses Innovation (Murray) sprinted three furlongs in 42 3-ss. Tooley Street (Kearns) and Land Court (Messervey) went nicely over half a mile in 51s* Land Court is the latest addition to H. Kama's team and is a three-year-old gelding by Appellant—Anacre. The Railway Handicap candidates Stretto . (Wiggins) and Marie's Acre (Messervey) were responsible for a good gallop over five furlongs in 1.2 '3-5. They ran the first two furlongs in 25 2-ss, and both finished in good style. Marie's Acre is fit and Stretto, who has had an easy time recently, is again putting plenty of dash into her work. Royal Abb (Wiggins) was doing a little better than Gamos (Markwick) at the end of five furlongs in 1.4 2-5, after taking 26 2-5s for the first two. Neither has yet fulfilled expectations, but they are going along satisfactorilv in thqir work.

Tea Gong (Tremain) pleased mora than Eliso (Messervey) over half a mile in 52 2-ss. Fleetwind (Gilchrist) was not unduly bustled to record the same time over the same distance. Jack Tar (Green) sprinted half a mile attractively in 48 2-ss,' the best time of the morning over the distance. Jack Tar is . a free worker and appears to have benefited by recent racing.. Philcourt Moves Freely

Philcourt (Messervey) was holding Trilliarcli' (Parcell) comfortably at the end of six furlongs in 1.20 1-5, the last half-mile in 52 4-ss. Philcourt, who is moving freely again, could have done better.

Glen Abb (Wiggins) and Ringshot (Markwick) were together at the end of six furlongs in 1.19. Both did their work well and it was a satisfactory effort for horses of their class.

Royal Message (Murray) led Hot Shot (Wiggins) in the early stages of a six-furlong gallop, but the latter finished well and was on terms at the close in 1.19 3-5, the last half-mile in 50 3-ss. There was little between Valdene (Tremain) and Prival (Caramick) at the end of seven furlongs in 1.33, although Valdene appeared to be going slightly the better. They ran the first half-mile in 525.

Alyth (Gilchrist) ran five furlongs in 1.5 4t5, the. last half-milo in 51-3-ss. She is bearing a bright appearance. Barrister (Cammick) just shaded Miss Appellant (Messervey) with Hackensclimidt (Gilchrist) and ltajanya (Tremain) several lengths away at the end of a round in 1.55, the last six furlongs taking 1.21 l-5< Barrister cam® home solidly and Miss Appellant's display was encouraging for a novice. . lllimani (Cammick) just boat Tupeotu (Gilchrist) with Baldric (Tremain) a couple of lengths away at the end of six furlongs in 1.20. lllimani is infusing more dash into his work than ho has done for some time. Bound by Full of Scotch Full of Scotch (Murray) gave Norso Lady (Messervey) a couple of lengths' start and was holding her at the end of a round in 2.2, tho last half-milo taking 55 2-ss. Full of Scotch has made excellent progress since he resumed work. Te Maranui (Cammick) was not bustled whilo running six furlongs in 1.25 2-5 and Pasture (Messervey) went freely over five furlongs in 1.5 3-5. , Tho two-year-olds Esquire (Markwick) and btonehaven (Murray) were on terms at the end of three 'furlongs in 40. 4-ss. Stonehaven is the Kincairr dine—Marchaway two-year-old in W. Kirk's stable.

On the tan Kelly did two rounds at a useful paoo and showed little ; sign of soreness. He appears to. be all right again and it is hoped thitt he will now continue his preparation for tlio Auckland Cup. Scot Abbey, (Nicholson) jumped two pony hurdles in capable style, although ho got up rather high.
