ANION IMPRESSES SMART FIVE FURLONGS PENZANCE AND TEPOTO FIT

TRACK WORK AT TAKANINI ; •The inside grass track, with the poles out 20ft., was in .good order, at. Takanini oH. Saturday morning. -Horses worked the left-hand way round, in view of the To Rapa meeting. Among those who pleased in their work were Orelio, Penzance, Tepoto and Anion. Tepoto (Smith) was picked up by Arvakur (Collett), to finish five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, half a length in front of Arvakur. Tepoto is an improved filly. Pleuron (Beguley) and Brazilian (Parkinson) went five furlongs in 1.5 3-5, but tlio former got the bettor of the start, and Brazilian was unable to make up the leeway. Pleuron was a trifle sore on his return. Inver (Inglis) and Anion (Bartle) kept together to record 1.4 3-5. Both did their work well, but Anion seemed to have more in reserve, and was very impressive. Valimeen (Vaughan) was sent an easy six furlongs, Palustre (Hatwell) jumped off at the mile post, finishing at the half-mile in 525. This was her first gallop for some time, she having had a let-up since tho last Waikato meeting, and she has freshened up nicely. Gay Movie (Curwen) was allotted an easy gallop over tho same ground, her time being 55 2-ss.' Pcnzanco (Hatwell) recorded 50 2-5s in impressivo stylo. Sho is greatly improved. Bronwen (Tinker) and Romani (Green) shaped well in their task, which occupied 51 4-ss. Bronwen looks benefited by her racing at Ellerslie, whilo Romani, who lightened up after his Waikato efforts, is again in nice order. Hot Box (Inglis) and High Sea (Beguley) were companions over six furlongs, but neither was asked for his best, to register 1.19 1-5. Hot Box pulled up well, showing no signs of the soreness caused through ricking a muscle recently. Round Up (Smith) and Valamito (Bartle) began slowly at the mile post and they did not stretch out until three furlongs had been covered in 425, but they came homo well over tho last five furlongs in 1.5 1-5, finishing on terms. Bachelor King (Tinker) and Miss Lovelock (Walters) did two rounds of strong work, with sprints over tho last two furlongs. On the first occasion, Bachelor King finished the bettor, but Miss Lovelock roverscd tho position in their next effort. Bachelor King hit out well on tho easy track. Lady Fox (Beguley) gained two lengths from Glenconnell (Smith) at tho start of a half-mile sprint, and the former increased her advantage to score decisively in 51b, the last three furlongs in 38s. As it was from practically a standing start, tho effort was impressive, but Glenconnell did not shape as well as usual. Orelio (Smith), under a hold, was too good for Gladynev (Bartle) over half a mile in 52 3-ss. Orelio could havo improved a good deal on this time, and is at tho top of, his form. Miss Eureka (Coleman), assisted ]by the Dronzo Eagle -r- Silent Miss colt (Walters) over tho first two in 26 3-ss, got to tho end of 'three furlongs comfortably in 39 3-ss. Bon Star (Hatwell), with tho assistance of Gay Opal (Coleman), ran six furlongs in 1.18, tho last half in 525.
