A WOMEN'S BANK
ENTERPRISE IN HOLLAND DIRECTOR RETIRES The first managing director of the first bank established for and staffed by women only, Airs.' Clara Aleyers, has retired "to see the world," states an overseas writer. She began life as a teacher, then became a clerk. When the women's bank was founded in Amsterdam ten years ago she was appointed its chief. It has been so successful that a branch is now to bo started in The Hague. The bank was formed chiefly to meet the wishes of women who objected to having to confess to male managers and cashiers that they were puzzled l].v financial and business matters. Some who did not know how to invest savings were distrustful of men. Others had money troubles of a delicate nature and did not care to explain them except to another woman. There were also women who liked the idea of being able to "drop in and have a chat" with a bank manager who was also a woman. The only difficulty that has arisen is that tho members of the staff marry so rapidly. Women who have shown their ability to handle financial matters casilv find husbands in Holland.
