MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS
SCHEME FOR DEVONPORT PROPOSAL TO RAISE LOAN Application for sanction to raise a loan not exceeding £12,000 for the erection of new municipal buildings in Dovonport . will immediately bo made to tho Local Government Loans Board by the Dovonport Borough Council, as a result of a resolution carried unanimously by a full meeting of the council last night. Plans for tho building schemo were approved by the council some time ago, and the special meeting last night was called to discuss a formal resolution to mako application for tho loan. Members stressed the necessity for now buildings, mentioning that rain had entered the present building during tho receut storm. It was reported that somo time might elapse before the loan was sanctioned, after which tho council would proceed to raise tho money and begin building with a minimum of delay. , It is proposed that tho now building, a two-storeyed concrete structure, should stand in Marine Square on the site of the present eouueil chambers. It will accommodate the public library and Plunket and women's rest rooms on the ground floor, in addition to the general offices of the council. A council chamber, 35ft. by 31ft., and offices for the Mayor, town clerk and borough engineer and inspector will occupy the 1 whole of the second floor.
