OHINEMURI CLUB MOVE DECISION TO AMEND RULE INCREASED LIMIT TO 400 DISTRICT COMMITTEE INTEREST [by telegraph—own correspondent] PAEROA, Wednesday The first step toward increasing the membership limit of the Oliinemuri Jockey Club from 100, which was rejected by members at the annual meeting, but revived by the committee following letters and conversations with the Auckland District ltacing Committee, has been taken at a special meeting held recently. An alteration in the rule to provide for a further vote was made. The chairman of the committee, Mr. P. E. Brenan, presided over an attendance of over 30 members. Ho explained the object of the notice of motion which had been circulated. At present, under rule 21 of the club's ruk-3 no subject once decided might bo reopened in the current season and there were reasons why tho membership limit should be reviewed. Principal among theso was, a strong hint from tho District Committee that the permits held for four days of racing might bo in jeopardy if tho membership were not increased. Inadequate Limit A letter had been sent to tho club in the following terms:—At a meeting of the District Committee on October 4 reference was mado to the limited membership of your club and tho privilege you now enjoy of holding four days' racing each year. The present limit of your membership appears to tho committeo to bo rather inadequate for the importance of your club and tho district you servo, and tho District Committee would be glad to know if you aro contemplating an alteration to your rules to increase tho limit and admit additional members. The matter is mentioned for your consideration in caso in the future such a small membership as at present might place any of your permits.in jeopardy. "Wo do not want to hide the fact that this is giving you an opportunity of increasing tho membership limit from 100 to 400. If you carry the motion you will pave tho way for a further opportunity of voting on the matter. No committeo would play 'ducks and drakes' with the club's affairsdeclared the president, Mr. F. E. Flatt, in moving in accordance with notice of motion. Mr. T. A. Barret seconded and Mr. H. Dent supported the motion. It was stated that the committee was unanimous in having the rule altered.

Result of the Ballot Tho voting by ballot resulted:— For the amendment of tho rulo 52 Against the amendment .. .. 17 Informal ~ .... 4 Total .. .. .. .. 73 Tho chairman declared the motion carried amid applause, and expressed thanks at tho confidence shown in tho committee. Steps had been taken to carry out the wishes of the racing authorities. Mr. It. S. Garden expressed regret that only 73 of tho 103 entitled to vote had sufficiently realised the importance of the matter, and he advocated that all members bo advised of the full facts, so that apathy would not contribute toward defeating the next ballot on tho question of increasing tho membership.

This was supported by several speakers and it was stated that, whilo it had been agreed bv tho Committeo that the figure bo 400, any member had the right to move any other limit, but any vote for an amendment would endanger tho motion. The limit would havo. been raised at tho last annual meeting if amendments had not been moved.
