"I'LL GIVE A MILLION"
BRIGHT COMEDY FOR CIVIC An amusing comedy with an interesting and unusual plot is offered in the 20th Century-Fox production "I'll Give a Million," which will commence a season at tho Civic Theatre to-mor-row. Warner Baxter has a role well suited to his talents as a millionaire who becomes tired of his wealthy friends and uneventful life and decides to become a tramp. The idea comes to him when lie dives overboard from' a friend's yacht in Marseilles harbour to rescue a tramp, portrayed by Peter Lorre. He confides to the rescued man that he is willing to give a million dollars to anyone who will show him real, kindness, thinking that ho is poor. The*story reaches the newspapers and tho people of Marseilles begin to take great interest in .the "gentlemen of the road." The town becomes the. Mecca of every tramp, who hopes to benefit by this unusual announcement. .In the'meantime, the millionaire has joined a circus, where he falls in love with tho daughter of one of tho performers, who has treated him kindly, believing him to bo penniless. When lie tries to return to his old life, difficulties are encountered, as another tramp has been chosen as tho millionaire in disguise. .Eventually lie succeeds in establishing, his identity and the picture ends- happily. A fine supporting cast includes Marjorio Weaver, as the girl who befriends the millionaire, Jean Hersholt, .John Caradine. and Lynn Bari. Capable direction bv Walter Lang adds considerably to the success of the picture.
