DRAINAGE PROBLEMS
HAURAKI PLAINS AREA ' APPOINTMENT OF COMMITTEE [BY TELEGRAPH-tOWN correspondent] PAEROA, Wednesday Representatives of county and borough councils, drainage boards, chambers of commerce and the Farmers' Union were present at a meeting convened to consider the improvement of the drainage of the area between Mataniata and Thames. The silting and overflowing of rivers, including the Ohinemuri, the Pinko and the Waihou, and the flooding by seawater of coastal lands on the southern shores oi the Hauraki Gulf were among the n.atteis discussed. A committee of local body representatives was set up to investigate fully the drainage problem of the district and to collaborate as far as possible with the Government.
