WORLD COMMERCE

FEAR OF A BREAKDOWN WARNING BY ECONOMIST WINNIPEG. Nov. 28 The noted British economist and finance expert, Sir George Paish, in an address to the Institute of International Affairs, predicted a complete breakdown of world trade within u year, unless the policy of self-sufficiency pursued by nearly every nation is abandoned. The breakdown would first lead the world to revolution and then to war, said Sir George. Every nation must reverse its tariif policies in favour of freer trade if disaster was to bo averted.

The greatest hope was that Britain and the United States would get together and announce to the world what they would do regarding freeing trade, on the condition that Germany and other nations acted reasonably.
