NEW BRIGHTON CLUB ACCEPTORS FOR SATURDAY MACE MEMORIAL HANDICAP STRONG FIELD OF 15 REMAINS [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRIST-CHURCH, Tuesday Tho Now Brighton Trotting Club has received the following acceptances for its mid-summer meeting, to be held 011 Saturday next: —

EXCEPTIONAL SPEED PACERS AT DUNEDIN FINE ART'S PERFORMANCE ON LIMIT OF AUCKLAND CUP [BY IELEGIIAPH —OWN COIIUESPONDEN'T] CHBISTCHURCH, Tuesday Logan Derby was the victim of circumstances in the Recovery Handicap on the second day of the Forbury Park meeting, when Big Author beat him. , From 36yds. behind, Logan' Derby began quickly and his driver got behind Graham Direct,- Although Graham Direct had gone off correctly, he was not ,doing his work as well as the loaders, at the head of which was Glcnrossie. At the end of three furlongSi Logan Derby had not recovered any of his handicap, and had actually lost ground. It was almost an impossible task he was set, but his driver persevered, and ho was within striking distnnco of the leaders two furlongs from homo. - He failed to catch Big Author, but was far from disgraced.. In tho President's Handicap, which ho won earlier, Logan Derby was driven an unusual race. With still a mile and a-quarter to go, J. M. Stamford drove round tho outside of the field into third place, and many thought that ho had mistaken the number of laps. However, this was not so, and at the three furlongs, Logan Derby raced past tho leaders and won comfortably. His two displays marked him as a super horse. He was timed to run his last mile in tho Forbury Handicap in 2.5 2-5, and the last half in 1.4 2-5. On these figures, ho ran his third halfmile in 1.1, it being then that he raced round tho field. Fine Art took no harm from his hard race on the first day at Forbury Park and his next race will probably bo the Auckland Trotting Cup. Tho Jack Potts gelding gave one of tho finest performances seen at Dunedin when ho won the Caversham Handicap in .'3.14 4-5, finishing with phenomenal dash on tho outside of tho field. Ho camo homo straight and true and while ho just got up to head Nell Grattan, it was a wonderful display of brilliancy and stamina. . Oft' tho limit of the Auckland Cup, ho should tako beating. After his success last Thursday, Roan Duke was under offer to a Canterbury owner, but tho negotiations had not been completed on Saturday, lloan Dulco was unlucky in tho Tainui Handicap, as lie lost ground, at the start and finished close behind tho placed horses. He looks as if ho will win good sprinting races. Nell Grattan was narrowly beaten by Fine Art, then she was unlucky to strike Fremont at his best. Fremont was required to better tho track record to. beat her on Saturday, while her 3.14 4-5 equalled tho track record. ''
