STEELE DEFEATS DETTON
CONTEST IN AUSTRALIA
Private advice was received in Auckland yesterday that Ray Steele defeated Dean Detton in a match in Sydney by one fall in eight rounds. Steele now claims the championship of Australia and New Zealand, but negotiations are in progress to match Steele with the winner of the Blomfield —Jonathan contest. Sydney Stadiums. offered a guarantee of £750 for Blomfield to go to Australia to meet Steele, but the Auckland Wrestling Association has increased this amount to £IOOO.
T.A.N., Newmarket, writes: —Could you tell me the number of wrestling bouts, and the number of wins Lofty Blomfield has had in New Zealand since he returned from his tour of America five or six months ago? Blomfield has had 69 matches for 49 wins, ten draws, six losses and one no decision. —Athletics Editor.
