ARCHITECT AMENDS PLANS £79,749 CONTRIBUTED TO FUND [BY TELEGRAPH—OWN CORRESPONDENT] WELLINGTON,, Sunday Alterations which "will greatly * enhance its dignity and beauty have been made to the plans of the proposed Wellington Anglican Cathedra! by the architect, Mr. Cecil W. Wood, o! Christchurch, in the light of the Snowledge ho gained on a recent visit to Europe. The amended plans, which have now been made public by the Bishop of Wellington, Rfc. Rev. H. St. Barba , Holland, depart somewhat from the simplicity of the original designs. They show a lofty ferro-concrete building roofed with tiles, and dominated by a ,• high square tower with balustrades and windows. The cathedral, which will cost £230,000, will stand oa the hillcrest site at the corner of Molesworth and Hill Streets. The foundation stone is to be laid during the New Zealand centennial celebrations in 1910. So far, £79,749 has been contributed to the cathedral fund, in addition to the money already paid by 6 diocese for the purchase of the valuable site.
