NEW PRINCIPAL
MELBOURNE KINDERGARTENS AUTHOR OF RESEARCH WORK The appointment of Dr. Margaret McFarlahd, a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy of Columbia University (U.S.A.), to succeed Miss Christine Heinig as principal of the Kindergarten Training College, Mooralbeek, Kew, was announced recently in a Melbourne exchange. Dr. McFarland will arrive in Melbourne in February next year, and will take up her duties at the college a few weeks before Miss Heinig -leaves to return to the United States.
'A specialist in nursery school work and child development, I)r. McFarland has published an authoritative research work, i entitled "A Study of Sibling Relationships," which is a reference book in kindergarten training. She has had extensive experience in lecturing and organisation, and at present is the head of a nursery school at "Winnetka, Illinois. Her appointment was made oh the recommendation of Dr. Kandel, the head of the Teachers'_ Training _ College, Columbia University, who visited Australia for the New Education Conference.
