AUCKLAND'S ART TREASURES The extraordinary stiinulus being given to art in Auckland 50 v years ago was the subject of a leading article which appeared in the New Zealand Herald of November 26. 1888. The fo - lowing is an extract: — "In art treasures Auckland compares more than favourably with any ot er city, not only in New Zealand, butJjj all the colonies. Almost as recent has been the bequest made by the late Dr. for a School of Art and Designin land. That Auckland must eventually become a favourite rendezvous for stu dents of art seems predetermined.
