CHESS CLUB SEASON
PAPATOETOE FINAL NIGHT PRESENTATION OF TROPHIES The final of the series of evenings held during the year by the Papatoetoe Chess Club took place recently. The usual A versus B match was played and resulted in a win for Mr. N. Barclay's team against a team captained by Mr. D. A. Clarke. After the match the trophies won during the year were presented by the club's patron, Mr. W. J. Nicholson. Mr. N. .10. W. Barclay won the senior championship trophy and Mrs. G. Hodpe won the junior championship trophy. Mr. G. A. Clarke was the winner of the handicap match and Mr. R. V. Glossy of tno B grade handicap. A feature of the evening was the attendance of a number of tho ladies from the learners' class, who showed great promise for the coming season. The club's president, Mr. G. Hodge, congratulated the winners and reported on the strong financial position of the club. He expressed hopes of a very successful ycqr in 1939. Supper concluded a v,ery pleasant evening.
