EMPIRE ATTACKED
RETURN OF COLONIES GERMAN PAPER'S OUTBURST DEMONSTRATIONS CONDEMNED ♦ FUTURE COURSE UNAFFECTED By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright LONDON, Oct. 23 The semi-official German publication Diplomatic Correspondence angrily attacks demonstrations throughout the British Empire against the return of colonies, says a Berlin message. "Such manoeuvres," the paper says, "will not influence in any way Germany's standpoint or course of action. The disquiet shows that the circles concerned feel things cannot be maintained without a chance. "The Reich claims its possessions were taken under false pretences. It makes no difference which Power received colonies, or even if they have proved extremely useful to a State or Dominion. The initiative for settlement does not lie with Germany."
SUICIDAL POLICY SURRENDER OF MANDATE AUSTRALIA STANDS FIRM NO RELINQUISHMENT OF TRUST SYDNEY, Oct. 24 "Suggestions that Australia should hand over New Guinea to Germany cannot be seriously entertained," said the Minister of External Affairs, Mr. W. M. Hughes, in a broadcast address. "Such a policy," he added, " would not only be suicidal but craven. The mandated territory was granted to us in trust, and we shall not relinquish our trust."
