ACTIVITY AT STATION

HEAVY HOLIDAY TRAFFIC EXPRESSES FULLY BOOKED EXTRA TRAINS REQUIRED Crowds leaving and returning by train yesterday gave the Auckland railway station a busy appearance and all trains had their accommodation taxed in spite of extra expresses to the south to assist in coping with the traffic. After an exceptionally heavy day on Saturday at the beginning of the holiday period, traffic was light on Sunday, but increased again far beyond the normal yesterday. Additional activity was lent to the scene by the large number of people who saw friends off at the station. Bookings were heavy for all the outward trains and the afternoon and limited expresses to Wellington were fully booked well in advance. The afternoon express left with 11 cars attached, while the limited express comprised the largest permissible total of 12 cars, every seat being taken 011 both. People without reserved seats were not allowed on the limited express and were requested to travel by the relief express leaving at 8.5 p.m. An extra train was run to Tauinarunui, leaving at 7.35 p.m., and this connected with a special train to New Plymouth. Parties of trampers and excursionists returning after a week-end in the country swelled the inward trains, particularly the express from North Auckland, while this morning's inward trains will bring large numbers of passengers. In addition to the limited express from Wellington, two special trains arc due to arrive this morning, one from National Park, arriving at 7.36 a.m., and the other from Wellington, arriving at 11.15 a.m.
