YACHT CAPSIZES

FOUR YOUTHS RESCUED CRAFT DRIFTS ASHORE RANGITOTO CHANNEL MISHAP Struck by a rain squall a 14ft. sailing boat, the Romp, capsized in Rangitoto Channel between 11 and 11.30 yesterday morning. The four occupants were rescued after they had been in the water for 10 minutes. With Reginald Corney, aged 18, and Edward Corney, aged 15, of 73 Islington Street, Ponsonby, Harry MacDonald, aged 17, of O'Ncil Street, Ponsonbv, and a fourth youth on board, the boat left Shelly Beach about nine o'clock and off Shoal Bay met another small boat, the Shirley, which was manned by friends. The occupants of the two boats de- ' cided to have a race to Islington Bay. Rangitoto, and this was in progress when the Romp capsized. The Shirley was only 100 yards away, but could not give assistance owing to the wind. Ihe occupants of an outboard motor-boat, which was about 300 yards off, hurriedly came to the boys' assistance and took them on board. An attempt was made to tow the Romp ashore, but this had to e abandoned. The boys were landed at Cheltenham Beach, and apart from suffering from the cold, were none the worse for their adventure. Alter another outboard motor-boat had failed to recover the Romp, the vessel drifted ashore at Okahu Bay on the incoming tide.
