JAPANESE THRUSTS
HANKOW AND CANTON CLAIMS AND COUNTER-CLAIMS SHANGHAI, Oct. 20 The Japanese claim that they are steadily approaching Hankow, having reached Ocheng, which is 70 miles downstream, but 40 miles in a direct line. The Chinese, however, insist that they have repulsed the invaders along the Tehan-Singtze railway, and tliey also claim success at Wu-chai-ten. The Japanese report the capture of Cheng-kan-shu, 20 miles from Canton.
