SEAFARERS' SERVICE
NAVY TO PARTICIPATE CEREMONY AT ST. MATTHEW'S YOUNG AUCKLANDER'S MEMORY Conducted' as "a thanksgiving for past mercies and an invocation of Go a blessing on ships and those who sail in them from the port of Auckland during tho coming year," the annual national seafarers' service will be held at St. Matthew's Church at 10 a.m. to-morrow. Tho custom is being followed of holding the service on the Sunday nearest to Trafalgar Day, which was commemorated yesterday. All the ships of the New Zealand Division of tho Royal Navy will bo represented at tho service, which will also bo attended by members of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve, the merchant service and various bodies connected with Bhips and seafarers. Flags from ships in port and of the Auckland Harbour Board, shipping companies and yacht clubs will be carried into tho church and blessed by Archbishop Aver ill. « Tho Royal Navy and Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve parties will march from tho Admiralty steps to the church, Tho service is to be conducted by tho Rev. H. K. Vickery, chaplain of tho Missions to Seamen. Commodore I. G. Glennio will read the lesson, and tho preacher will bo tho Rev. H. L. R. Isherwood, vicar of Northcote. It is also intended to conduct a memorial service at 8.15 p.m. in tho Mariners', Chapel of tho Missions to Seamen for the lato Mr. R. D. Boyd, a New Zealand apprentice on tho Finnish barque Painir, who died at Nordenham, Germany, recently. Mr. Boyd, who was a well-known Auckland yachts* man, signed a two years' indenture when the vessel was at Auckland in February. Members of tho Royal Akarana Yacht Club aro to attend tho service.
