TRIALS' FOR TRENTHAM GREY HONOUR RETURNS LAME SOLID GALLOP BY DICTATE DRANOEL ATTRACTS ATTENTION [llY TKLKGRAI'H —OWN COUBKSI'ONDENT] CHRISTCHURCH, Saturday The outsido of the course proper at lliccarton to-day was open for use by horses booked to race at Trentham and some others, and the trainers took advantage ol the excellent going provided. The inside of the trial grass was available lor the remainder. On the course proper, Sovereign Lady and Disdain ran nine furlongs in 1.53. Sovereign Lady led her stable mate throughout. It was the first time Disdain had been sont over a distance of ground and, although she was not put to a serious test, her work was satisfactory. Trench Fight showed a marked imErovement on his gallop of Thursday y keeping Wild Chase up to his work over the final stages of a mile run in 1.42, the first half taking 49 3-ss. Wild Chase again went exceptionally well and held the upper hand throughout. Winning Itival was given air easy five furlongs and Counterblast did similar work. Klnnoull Oontinues Sound Kinnoull was going better than Capo Gabo at the end of a mile in 1.45. The former pulled up sound and may be deoendeu upon again to have a profitable trip to Trentliani. -Flame Queen and Recollection finished abreast at the end of seven furlongs in 1.32. Redolent led a working gallop over a mile. Defaulter was going easily in front of Waitaka and Nightdress, to cover a mile in 1.45 3-5, the first half in 50 3-ss. Defaulter could substantially have reduced these figures. Grey Honour and Rebel Star finished together, well clear of Phalanx, over six furlongs in 1.17 3-5, the last halfmile in 53 3-ss. Groy Honour was lame later and is a doubtful visitor to Trentham. l?ebel Star shaped creditably, but Phalanx was not encouraging. Ponty and Cocksure maintained an even pace over six furlongs run in 1.18, the last four in 52 3-ss. With racing at Rangiora and Motukarara, they should be in evidence during the New Zealand Cup meeting. Dictate gave Kilrobe a three lengths' start, but was not far from her at the end of six furlongs, reached in 1.16 1-5, the last four in 50 l-ss. Dictate, who looks brighter than for some time past, will be ridden by L. Clifford at Trentham. Wagner required 1.18 3-5, but he ran the last half-mile in 50 4-ss. Synthetic and Waka ran the distance in 1.16 3-5, the last four in 51 3-ss. They are to race at Trentham. Willie Win's Engagements Willie Win strode over seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5, the last four in 50 4-ss. He will go north for the second and third days at Trentham. On the trial grass, Great Flight and Good Passage ran six furlongs in 1.19, similar time being recorded by Miss Bluff. Others run over this distance included Happy Night and Nightcalm, 1.18 1-5; Aggravate and Manetho, 1.17 4-5. Over five furlongs, Plumage and Supreme Court recorded 1.3 3-5, Financiere and Rebellion, 1.3 2-5; Royal Baby and Royal Pat, 1.5; Silver Lark and Nigella, 1.4 and Wine Card, 1.5. ~v Dranoel attracted attention by covering half , a mile in 48 4-ss. The Masquerader toOk 49 2-55, - ' La Plata and Amoretto, 51 l-ss; Lady Leigh, 535.' Sir Rosenor galloped seven furlongs in 1,31 2-5. Aymou took 1.32 2-5, Dracula, 1.31; "Top Rank and Great Bramble, 1.31 4-5; Gay Parade and Glenogil, 1.29 1-5. On the plough, Golden Chest ran five furlongs in 1.5 and Romarin, half a mile in 50 4-ss.

HAWERA ACTIVITIES LADY-KYRA IN GOOD FORM PRIME QUALITY AND LICKEM [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAWERA, Saturday Both tho plough track and tho course proper were in good order for training at Hawora this morning, when candidates for Trentham and Waverley were galloped. Lady Kyra, with half a mile on the grass, and Prime Quality and Lickom, over five furlongs on the plough, went especially well. On the course proper, Disturbed (Wagstaff) and In Command (Toki) finished two rounds of pace-work by running home balf a mile in 54 2-ss. Viracious (Chaplin), easily held off Flying Hostess (Cole) at the end of six furlongs traversed in 1.22. v Lady Kyra (Sexton) finisbod too solidly for Gold Petal (Chaplin) over half a mile in 50 2-ss. Lady Kyra is rapidly approaching her best. Gold Petal had the worse of the weights and was not ridden out. Algerian (Monkley) and Kilometre (Sexton) strode out ni'cely over half a mile in 51 l-ss. Race Away (Farland) and Carmody (Fryer) sprinted a quarter in 25a. Race Away has furnished into an attractive colt; On the plough, Notium (Cole) worked with freedom over five- furlongs ir. 1.4 1-5. Amoroso '(Monkley) ran tho last throe furlongs of half a mile in 37 2-ss, finishing in good style. Daisy Chain (Wagstaff) and Colonel Bunsby (SeSton) were oif terms clear of Gold Card (Fryer) at tho end of three furlongs in 375. One Whotu (Monkley) «'inu Kokako (Cole) traversed half a' mile in 52 l-ss. One Whotu 'was very lame after working and it is doubtful whether he will race again. , Prime Quality (Sexton) and Lickom (Monkley) pleased by getting to tho end of five furlongs in 1.4. Both horses nut dash into their tapk. Ramleh (Farland), Gold Band (Fryer) and Lady Boden (Riley) ran an easy five furlongs in 1.0 4-5. Ramleh bears a bright appearance. . Dark Eagle (Monkley) shaded Lord Cavendish (Sexton) in 1.5, which time was equalled by Narrator (Cole). Gold Glare (Farland) and Captain Bligh (Fryer) wore not out to make time to record 1.10, hut both are in first-rate order.

Race Call, who has returned from Masterton, is not likely to race on the first day of the Wellington meeting.

AVONDALE JOCKEY CLUB NOMINATIONS AND FORFEtTS Nominations for the handicap events and forfeits for the Nihotupu Plate at the Avondale Jockey Club's second spring meeting on November 12 and 14 are due with the secretary, Mr. J. KONNETA GOES SOUTH TO COMPETE AT TRENTHAM The two-year-old Konneta, by Bulandshar, from Sunny Hours, left for Trentham on Saturday in charge of her trainer, R. S. Bagby. Konneta has gone on the right way since finishing second at her first start in the Welcome Stakes at Ellerslie and should have prospects in her engagements at the Wellington Racing Clud'b Spring Meeting.
