AMATEUR ATHLETICS

Auckland club's officers There was a large attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Auckland Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club. The president, Mr. W. Morton, presided, and congratulated the members on attending in such force. A welcome was tendered new members. The report stated that in spite of certain difficulties members were to be congratulated upon tho work accomplished during the past 12 months and achievements in the interests of amateur athletics as well as the assistance rendered to various worthy causes. The winter season was the most succcsful in the history of the club. The club captain. J. W. Savidan, performed brilliantly in harrier, cross-country and road racing, with L. R. Watters a good second. Miss I)oreen Lumley gained a place in the New Zealand team at the Empire Games in Sydney. C. C. Reilly, B. 11. Payne and L. R. Watters tied for the Victor Ludorum Cup, and each received a gold medal. 11. Chadwick established a record for a New Zealander in the high jump at the Victor Ludorum Cup meeting.

A number of highly enjoyable functions was held, and as the result of the efforts of the winter sports committee the club had added a piano to its list of possessions. The club membership totaHed 'JUT. including track and winter season uthletes, associate and lady numbers. Registered track and field members totalled 101. Donations and other receipts, including membership fees, amounted to £1(18 18s Id. Cash in hand and at the bank amounted to Cl2 (is 7d. The club had assets of considerable value, including challenge trophies, hurdles and other gear.
