MRS. L. P. KINGI'S DEATH LEADING MAORI IN NORTH [by tklegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI, Friday A direct descendant of the famed Maori warrior Hongi and one of the best-known Maoris in the days of the early settlement of the Whangarei County, Mrs. Louisa Pomare Kingi, aged 97, has died at Poroti. She was the fourth daughter of Mr. William Wells, who married Hinewharo, the chief's daughter, at Waimate, Bay of Islands. Mrs. Kingi married Pomare Kingi, son of a prominent Maori in the Whangarei district. As one of the leading Maori women in this area, Mrs. Kingi had the opportunity of meeting many illustrious visitors, including the late King George V. and the Duke of Windsor.
