VON CRAMM'S RELEASE

REDUCTION OF SENTENCE (Received October 11; 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Oct. 10 The German tennis star Baron von Cramm is to be released on October 16 and the remainder of his sentence will be remitted, says the Berlin correspondent of the British United Press. Baron von Cramm was taken into custody on March 7 last on suspicion of violating paragraph 175 of the Criminal Code, which deals with sexual offences. He was convicted on May 14 and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment, less the two months he had already served. The trial was held in a special Court. No witnesses were called for the prosecution. The junior counsel for the defence. Herr Langbiel, called seven witnesses who testified to von Crannn's character.

The public piosecutor applied for a hearing in camera. Von Crnnim's chief counsel, Dr. Gehricke, assented. The Judge, in sentencing accused later, stated that while his services to German sport had been taken into account, ho had also damaged the reputation of Gorman sport.
