TAKANINI HORSES

TRENTHAM CANDIDATES SHIN SORENESS PREVALENT SHORTAGE OF STABLE HANDS Anopheles, who will again have C. G. Goulsbro as her pilot in the Wellesley Stakes next week, is due "to leave by train for Trentham on Monday in company with It. S. Bagby's candidate, Konnet.-v, for the Wellington fixture. Although Anopheles was showing signs of soreness on arrival home after winning the Welcome Stakes, she soon recovered and was walking with freedom at the track yesterday. Provided lloyevrus freshens during the week, ho will probably bo taken to Wellington to race on the second and third clays. Pocket Venus, who has been on the easy list since contracting a foot complaint, is recovering and will be back at useful work shortly. Gold Petal, a noticeable entrant for Wavorley on Labour Day, is no longer trained at Takanini. Ho was sent home to Taumarunui a few days ago. Jumpers Schooled Siega is being persevered with over hurdles, and with C. Walters, cleared four obstacles safely yesterday. Mia Acrea (Waiters) and Brilliant Acre (Mcllroy) also jumped the same obstacles down tho back while indulging in useful work over more than a milo and a-half. Brilliant Aero, who is likely to make his first appearance as a hurdler at Whangarei, shapes attractively. , F. Smith is hopeful that Orolio will recover sufficiently from shin soreness to be taken to Trentham for the Wellesley Stakes. Tho son of Limond was at trotting and cantering exercise yesterday. If the trip is undertaken Grateful almost certainly will bo taken south but there is some doubt whether Hound Up will fulfil his Wellington engagements.

Maxam's failure to finish in a place at Ellerslie on Saturday is put down to her developing shin soreness, and she is still on the easy list, but the coinplaint is disappearing. Hunter's Rose Promising

Hunter's Rose, who has been displaying encouraging pace when tried, was among those hitting out freely on the plough yesterday without beinc after time. Loch Mara acted as a companion.

Our Jean and Miss Emelia are a pair still continuing their short, smart sprints, and they covered two furlongs yesterday in 24 4-ss. Bronwen and Estro together, and Romani by himself, were all credited with covering half a mile on the plough in 545. E. Pope recently sent Beverley home. Since being physicked and returning to track work, Valimeen has been responsible for some useful work and appears to be thriving on it. Inquisitor and Parquet The two-year-old White Mark is suffering from a cold and it may be a few weeks before R. Burrett's juvenile is again on the tracks. C. Morse could not state definitely yesterday whether Inquisitor and Parquet would complete their Wellington engagements. The former displayed promise when he finished third to Jayola at Ellerslie on Monday. The majority of Takanini trainers are feeling the shortage of stable labour and contend that if racing clubs would place more apprentice races on their Srogrammes it' would help the position. ! wo successful trainers there stated yesterday that they would be forced to consider diminishing the size of their teams unless the position improved.

MANY NEW HORSES TWENTY ENTERED FOR EPSOM With 14 horses from outside the province, and six new ones, who have recently joined local stables, there will be no lack of sound opposition to Auckland-trained horses at the spring meeting. Bingeri Chimes, Audrey's Lastfrom Hastings; Shirley's Pal, from Wanganui; Carl, Tonee, from Nelson; and Resistance, from Christchiircli, tho last-named being likely to join an Auckland stable. his stable-mates, All Bingen and Acceleration. have each won two races.

Although ho has been a winner, Cnrl is disappointing, but Tonee, late Inst season had a fine run of He failed last month at Wellington, but is a good trotter. Glorietta and Effie Parrish havo good credentials. Big Kauri, an aged gelding with little experience, won impres sively at Hawera. Arapai has proved one of the best trotters olnss in the North Island, but on two visits to Auckland ho was unlucky to striko wet tracks. Civic, Navy Blue and Chaise, are members of M. Stewart's team, Vicn Regal is in A. W. Broughton's stablo. Bey mere is trained by G. C. Young and Alpine Prince by C. H. Goodall.
