CHARGES OF RECEIVING
FUR COAT AND GOLD RINGS MECHANIC SENT FOR TRIAL Charges of receiving a fur coat and two gold rings from John Francis Schdroski on September 23, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained, were denied by Cecil William Hutchison, mechanic, aged 31 (Mr. Robinson), in the Police Court yesterday, before Messrs. D. Donaldson and S. Leah, J.P.'s. Evidence was given by Alfred Hertsgberger that he bought the fur coat from accused for £5, receiving a receipt for the amount. On another occasion accused told him he was hard up and offered to sell witness a ring, which he refused to buy. Witness kept the coat until the police called for it and told him it had been stolen.
Acting-Detective-Sergoant F. N. Aplin said lie showed accused the receipt for the coat, and accused said: "This means another stretch. I was a fool to take it. I knew it was stolen, but I thought I was obliging him by getting ?ome money for him." Accused refused to make a statement, witness added, and, although he promised to recover the rings for the police, he did not do so. They were only subsequently recovered.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
