TE AROHA SCHOOL NEEDS

Sir, —In your issue of Thursday under the above heading a decision of the To Aroha School Committee to once more approach the Hon. - It. Seinple direct for the completion of the playground at the new school is reported. Your report contains the following paragraph: "Threo weeks ago Mr. J. Thorn, M.P. for Thames, after inspecting the area, undertook ; to make urgent representations to responsible quarters, but as apparently no action has been taken the committee has decided to act on its own initiative." I object "to the statement that "apparently no action has been taken." I met the school committee on the Monday in the final week of the last Parliament. Within two days I wired Mr. Semple asking for the reason why work 'on the grounds had been sus pended and urging expedition in their completion. Three or four days ago I received a telegram from the committee secretary informing me that nothing had been done. I thereupon advised him that .I would wire Mr. Semple again. I did so, and on Wednesday morning T informed the secretary by telegram of the nature of Mr. Semple's reply. Mr. Semple's reply was to the effect that work had been suspended owing to bad weather and the inability of the Labour Department to obtain suitable eligible men. Ho added that he would take steps to expedito the work. Far from no action having been taken, so far as I am concerned everything possible has been done. James Ihobn. October 6, 1938.
