DRINKING AT DANCES
NORTHCOTE COMPLAINT « HABIT; ON THE INCREASE" POLICE OBSERVATIONS The—practice of drinking in* parked motor-cars outside dance halls was the subject of a letter read at a meeting of the Northcote Borough Council last night from Constable J. Horan, to whom the council had referred representations' made by vestry pf.. the Northcote Anglican Church in August. The habit was certainly on the increase, stated the constable, who pointed out that during the 'past winter he had seen more drinking in and about cars in the vicinity of the hall while dances were in progress than during the whole of his previous service at Northcote. This drinking was done quite openly, both by men and women. So ' long as there was no drunkenness or disorderly conduct, he had ho right to interfere—no more right than to interfere with the council's workmen drinking tea with their -lunch... i .. . ■
