OBITUARY

MR. WILLIAM GADSBY A veteran farmer of the South Taranaki district, Mr. William Gadsby, Ims died at New Plymouth, aped 86. Mr. Gadsby arrived in Now Zealand in October, 1879, and settled in the Patea district, where he farmed for nearly 28 years. His farm of 1000 acres at Manutahi been mo noted for its stud sheep, with which he won numerous prizes at agricultural shows in the province. At the inception of the factory system of butter manufacture, Mr. Gadsby became the first chairman of the Kakaramea dairy factory. About .'JO years ago he took up a large area of iiative land at Tapu Wahine, near Te Kuiti, where he built a dairy factory and established a largo number of homes for share-milkers, but after the absorption of the factory by a larger company Mr. Gadsby again reverted to sheepfarming. He attracted considerable attention from farmers by his successful efforts in developing virgin hill country on a comprehensive scale.

Mr. Gadsby had an extensive knowledge of all breeds of stock, and his services were frequently sought for judging at agricultural shows. Ho was twice married, and is survived by a largo family. There are over 60 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. The funeral took place at Patea on Wednesday. MR. E. B. WALKER Formerly a well-known figure in the stock business in all parts of the Waikato, Mr. Edward Benn Walker, aged 66. of Parahi. Matakohe, died in a private hospital in Auckland this week. Sir. Walker was the last surviving son of the late Mr. E. B. Walker, of Monavalo Estate, Cambridge, whero ho was born. Ho lived most of his life in that district, although he resided in Te Awamutu for some years and only latterlv took up farming in North Auckland. As a young man Mr. Walker was a keen athlete and representative footballer, and throughout his life ho was a prominent sportsman. He is survived by his wife and two sons. MRS. CLARA PRIMROSE [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT] HAMILTON, Thursday The death has occurred in Hamilton of Mrs. Clara Rose Primrose, aged 76 years. Mi's. Primrose was born in England and came to New Zealand when a child. She married the late Mr. George Watson Primrose in Gisbornc, and lived there until five years ago, when she came to Hamilton. She is survived by one daughter. MR. W. D. LINN [ilY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NEW PLYMOUTH, Thursday The death has occurred at New Plymouth of Mr. William David Linn, aged 68. a well-known Jersey breeder. Mr. Linn was born at Newmarket, Auckland. Later the family went to South Taranaki and Mr. Linn farmed in several districts in the province for 40 years.
