HUTT PARK TROTS

CHIEF EACES REVIEWED BOLLARD MEMORIAL CONTEST PHILARIO STRONGLY FANCIED BY ABAYDOS The Bollard Memorial Handicap, the chief event at tho Wellington Trotting Club's mooting at Hutt Park on Saturday, has a 3.28 limit and has drawn together a fine field of intermediate pacers, all «f whom aro capable of going faster than their handicaps. The Auckland candidate, Bexley Girl, is a stayer and has niado progress since she was beaten by * Nell Grattan both days at Wnngnnui and, although she is giving away 12 yards, she should have prospects. Philario, one of tho most promising horses in the Dominion, also demonstrated staying ability at Forbury Park by recording 4.23 3-5 in a 4.40 class. He should have, derived benefit from last month's racing. Fremont and Cavan Chief lost their novice status at the Auckland summer meeting and may do still hotter. Fremont is 'expected to reach a high standard and Cavan Chief .was placed at Addington in August. Chance for Marlene Dark Hazard, who after several wins was .tried at the trotting gait without success, is showing a return to form and ho might surprise. Three Bells ran useful races last season and was twice successful on the West Coast circuit. Marlene.'s form last season was very promising and sho is expected to taktt higher honours. She should be suited by the distance. Treasure Bond's third to Carver Doone and Donald Dim in tho main races! at Hawera was full of merit. I Twenty Grand',is another'who has won) at,two miles and has had tho benefit of ; recent racing. He will be coupled with Philario. Philario, Twenty Grand, Bexley Girl and Marlene are likely to dispute favouritism. Prospects in Sprint The same field is listed for the 2.52 Wellington Handicap and there are somo who may bo better suited by tho shorter journey. Three Bells is among these and it will not be surprising to find him ono of the favoured division. Marlenu is a brilliant sprinter and should be very difficult to beat. Bexley Girl should derive benefit from tho earlier race, while Cavan Chief and Fremont onlj need to begin correctly to be dangerous. Philario has to be respected un,d Dark Hazard lias creditable form at the distance. Twenty Grand and Treasure Bond are capable of extending the best of their rivals. Some likely tl receive solid support are Marlene, Bexley Girl and Three Bells. Wellington Stakes The Wellington Stakes for three-year-olds is the first classic race of tho season and on two-year-old form Aldershot, who is assessed at 3.35, will claim most attention. Aldersliot won tho Juvenile Stakes and was second to Bed Rock in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes. He is tho only two-year-old winner engaged, the other winners, Bed Rock, Shadow Son and Contender, not being listed, Special Editor, who was placed threo times, is also an absentee. Zingarrie had a fair amount of raeiug and is now experienced. His form was useful without being remunerative and "if ho has improved at leaving the mark ho should have prospects. Worthy Empress displayed speed when racing in the Great Northern Stakes and she should have developed staying power in the interval. Centaurus gave some promising showings and is expected to display a deal of improvement. Revision Promising One of whom good things are expected is Revision. Wainoni Girl and Golden River had experience as two-year-olds. Although she has not raced, Mitaya is bred well enough to prove useful and her relatives, Frisco Lady and Frisco Boy, were fine three-year-olds. TJiere is little doubt that Aldershot will carry the bulk of the investments, while Zingarrie and Revision may bo best supported of tho remainder.

TURF JOTTINGS TRACK AND STABLE GOSSIP Sporting Gift has gained three of his four successes on the Foxton course. Nigella will bo ridden at Orari today by 11. Caddy, a younger brother of M. Caddy, and who will have a 71b. allowance. For tho 27 mares mated at his Cliveden Stud this year, Lord Astor clioso 21 different stallions, a few of which were his own property. J. Adams, who headed tho list of American jockeys last year, rode 46 winners at tho Hollywood Park meeting. Last month, at Del Mar, California, he broke a leg when.his horse fell. Kilbroney was foaled in 1907 and died in 1932, yet he is still winning posthumous honours on the flat as wqII as in jumping events. Kelly and Kilonsa are still among the front-rank handicappers in tho Dominion. The apprentice jockey, R. J. Belcher, was having his first mount on Stargono when lie bolted during his preliminary for tho Trial Stakes and was withdrawn. Later, Belcher rodo Flying Acre into third place in the Moutoa Handicap. *

Silver treak won the Squatters' Handicap at Orari a year ago under 9.1, and ho ran second in the Presidents' Handicap, run over a mile and 100 yards, on the concluding day. Ho has 9.2 in the Squatters' Handicap today, he having won twice in the interval.

Bracketed in the . Squatters' Handicap at Orari to-day will be Silver Streak and Silver Sail. The latter was formerly raced by her trainer, T. Hobtis, but was recently acquired by Mr. E, IT. Aubrey, owner of Silver Streak. The halt-brothers, Paladino and Nightealm, will bo bracketed in the same race.

Nearco, the crack Italian horse who was bought this year by Mr. M. Benson, to bo used ns a sire, has been fully booked until 1941 and there are several names on the waiting list. Most of the large breeders of thoroughbreds, including Lord Furness, the Aga Khan, Miss Dorothy Paget and tho- Sledmere StmJ have taken nominations. ';•
