GRIGG STAKES WINNER HOPES FOR MASTER HOTSPUR FIRST RINGMASTER TO SCORE When the quartette of yearlings representing the first crop" by Bingmnster came before buyers at the Trcntliam sales last January tliey attracted very favourable attention and one who was much admiilMl was the colt by Kingmaster from Impetuous, for whom Mr. F. Hay had to give 850 guineas. The colt has since been named Master Hotspur and he made a very auspicious debut when ho won the John Grigg Stakes at Ashburton last Saturday. Master Hotspur gave a demonstration of his galloping ability when ho appeared in the two-year-old parade at Riccarton last month and in view of the nature of his work in the meantime his success ill the Grigg Stakes was confidently anticipated. Having scored at his first start, it is expected that ho will soon win again, and the chances are that he will be a strong favourite the next time he is produced. Master Hotspur is a member of ono of the most successful families in tlio New Zealand Stud Book, his dam Impetuous being by Limond from Pennon, by Coriander from Eulogy, by Cicero. Impetuous was foaled on July 28, 1928, so that three days later sho ranked as a yearling, in spite of that handicap sho won races, and on ono occasion beat tlje speedy Movie Star at Wanganui. impetuous is the dam of Elanage, who has proved a great bargain at tlio 275 guineas be cost Mr. Max Steinberg as a yearling. Besides Master Hotspur, other yearlings by Kingmaster sold at Trentham were a colt from Anklet to Mr. G. J. Barton, for 525 guineas, a filly from Veil to Australia for G25 guineas, and a filly from Daman's to Mr. F. AV. Hughes, Sydney, for 550 guineas, which were good prices for stock by an untried sire.
