RECENT ACCESSIONS EARLY NEW ZEALAND BOOKS A number .of accessions to the Auckland War Memorial Museum collections were reported by the director, Mr. G. Archev, to the meeting of the council of tho Museum and Institute yesterday. The president, Mr. C. R. Ford, presided. The library, Mr. Archev said, was again indebted to Mr. E. E. Vaiie for a gift of books on early New Zealand, tlie gift including several books 011 the missionary and early pioneer days. Mrs. R. Wright had presented a case of mounted New Zealand birds; Mr. J. Raven, of Mohakatina, had presented a most unusual carved stone slab from the North Taranaki district; and from Miss K. Koesing had been received a collection of English china, a papier mache cabinet, Chinese ivory and Oriental inlay. The number of accessions to date for the year was i'o3, of which 39 had been received during the past month. The first section of an extensive rearranged display of insects had been completed by Mr. W. H. Hemingway, who had shown European and East Asiatic insects in 27 specially constructed unit cases. Mr. Hemingway was now proceeding with a display of tho life history of insects. The rearrangement and study of the collections was proceeding actively in all departments, as also was the answering of inquiries on ninny subjects. The total attendances for tho year so far had been 103.309. The council agreed to make a donation of £2 2s in response to tho National Health Camp organisation's appeal for a memorial to the late Sir George Richardson.
