BUILDING SOCIETIES

INCREASING PROBLEMS TREND OF LEGISLATION _ [BT TELEGRAM —PRESS ASSOCIATION*] GISBORXE, Wednesday "Many difficult problems still require careful consideration, and these problems appear to be increasing to a vital extent owing to the trend of some of the legislation," state the directors of the Gisborne Co-operative Building Society in their annual report. "There seems little doubt that the present national housing scheme is not intended to assist the average worker who desires to own a home of his own, and for this reason building societies appear to be one of the principal means of assisting in this direction." Loans granted by the society during the vear ended July 17 totalled £20,600, an increase of £6IOO on the previous year. The report also states that loans granted by the -society during its 39 years of existence aggregated £435,600.
